J.D. Childress Manufacturing Co., Inc., started in 1942. There were three brothers. One brother lived in Roanoke and made storm windows. One brother lived in Norfolk and made awnings. The other brother also lived in Norfolk and built jalousie windows. The brother in Roanoke passed away, so the storm windows began being built here in Norfolk. The next brother passed away, so the other brother JD made everything. When JD passed away in 1980, his nephew Harry (Bud) Childress took over. In 1983 is when Bud decided it was time to expand. That is when he met with engineers and decided to make vinyl replacement windows. Our employees are family to us.
